הִנֵּה מַה־טּוֹב וּמַה־נָּעִים שֶׁבֶת אַחִים גַּם־יָחַד
“See how good and pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity!” – Psalm 133:1
Dear Visitor,
Shalom. and thank you for taking the time to look into Beth El Membership.
Our Membership is “inclusive” – not exclusive: by this, we mean, our Membership process is primarily geared toward receiving in Membership anyone who wants to be part of what Beth El of Manhattan is, and does. We genuinely feel “the more, the merrier” – and hope you find the Membership process helpful in deciding if Beth El of Manhattan is the right spiritual home for you.

The Membership process has three parts:
1. Listen to the six “Membership Series” recordings below on this page. (Printable outlines in PDF format of each of the six lessons are available with the lesson audio below to use as you listen.)

2. After completing your study of the Membership Series, make an appointment with the Rabbi at info@bethelnyc.org to discuss the results. (Ask any questions having arisen, or affirm agreement.)

3. If you decide to apply for Membership, fill out the Membership Form (available at the bottom of this page in PDF format), and either hand it in at a Shabbat service, or mail it in to our office:

That’s it!

The reason we have arranged our Membership process this way is that each recording deals with a simplified outline of a main topic based on the Biblical worldview as defined by classic “systematic theology” – so that you do not first join Beth El of Manhattan, and then find out later we believe in something with which you substantively disagree. Proverbs 20:25 teaches us, “It is a snare to define something as ‘holy,’ and afterwards start asking questions about it.” You and we all want to make sure before you join that we all are “on the same page.”

The Membership Form is not a “legal” document or contract of any kind. It is a statement of acceptance of the terms of Membership for any who wish to make such a statement to define this congregation “their” synagogue. It should be noted – Membership is not required for attendance at any Beth El Shabbat Services, Holiday Services, or Synagogue Events.

If you have further questions, please email info@bethelnyc.org or phone our synagogue office at (212) 772-7500.

Once again, thank you for considering Membership in Congregation Beth El of Manhattan. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
